Fit4Life
Exercise can make day-to-day life more enjoyable and is important for improving strength, stamina, balance and flexibility. As well as improving all of these, it can also be a good way to meet people, and can be a whole load of fun!Aches, pains, weaker muscles and slowness in walking are often seen as an inevitable part of ageing. Yet many of these symptoms are not the direct result of ageing, but of the physical inactivity that often goes hand in hand with getting older. Whatever your age or ability, physical activity still has an important role to play in raising and maintaining your quality of life.
This new website allows you to search a wide selection of activities across the whole of Portsmouth and allows you to find an activity for you to enjoy by searching for a type of activity, or in an area of the city. Although the activities within this website are aimed at over 50's, not all have age restrictions. Please contact the activity organiser for information. Many of the activities on this site are organised independently within the community, and others are organised by Portsmouth City Council.
This website is the latest addition to the successful Fit4Life project run by the Council's Health Improvement and Development Service. Now in its second year, the Fit4Life project aims to provide opportunities for local people in mid and later life, to enhance and maintain their health and wellbeing. Physical activity groups have been established through consultation in a variety of communities and focus on fun, fitness and opportunities to meet new friends. Getting Started
If you haven't exercised for a while, getting active again may seem difficult or even frightening. But by taking at your own pace, and doing things you enjoy, virtually anyone can enjoy and benefit from exercise.
Remember - Please familiarise yourself with any activity before commencing. Warm up and cool down by gently stretching your body's muscles before and after an activity. If you are uncertain as to the suitability of any activity, please check with your GP prior to participation.
Although every attempt is made to keep the information on this site up to date, please check with the venue or organiser before attending any activity.
